The Board of Education will hold its Evening Business Meeting on Monday, July 30. The business meeting will begin at 5:30 p.m. and closed session will begin at 3:30 p.m. (Note time change). The meeting will be broadcast live on Comcast Channel 34, Verizon FIOS Channel 36, and RCN Channel 88. Meeting is rebroadcast at 1:00 p.m. on the Saturday and Sunday following the meeting.

Ananya Tadikonda was sworn in as the 41st Student Member of the Board of Education on July 9. Tadikonda, a rising senior at Richard Montgomery High School, was elected to the position by middle and high school students and will serve on the board for the next school year. Ms. Tadikonda succeeds Matthew Post, a 2018 graduate of Sherwood High School

On June 12, 2018, the Montgomery County Board ofEducation unanimously approved a final $2.60 billion Operating Budget forFiscal Year (FY) 2019. The budget represents a $77.2 million increase over thecurrent fiscal year. This will allow thedistrict to manage growth and make investments in critical areas to ensure allMontgomery County Public Schools (MCPS) students are achieving at high levels.

Education Matters (May/June 2018): In the Board Roundupsegment, Board of Education (Board) members discussed the issues and actions ofthe Board, including the negotiated agreements with the three employeeassociations; the Distinguished Service to Public Education Awards; discussionabout identifying and nurturing highly able learners; Policy JED, Residency, Tuition, and enrollment; PolicyFAA, Long-Range Educational FacilitiesPlanning; and Career Technology Education. The program also included anin-depth discussion regarding the recent measures of the Board to ensure thatour students, staff, and schools are safe and secure. The show is hosted byBoard President Michael Durso and featured Board Vice President Shebra Evans, BoardMember Patricia O’Neill, and Student Member of the Board Matthew Post, as wellas MCPS Safety & Security Supervisor Michael Harting and MCPS Department ofFacilities Management Director James Song.
